Talking Heads
The Talking Heads in Portswood, is slightly out of town but well worth a visit for the mixture of exciting live blues, jazz, and world acts taking the stage. The line-up features local bands in addition to artists with strong reputations both nationally and across the Atlantic. Of note is the Monday night ‘Candle Club’ where there is an open mic and everyone is welcome, though be sure to get there early if you want to participate. If not, the entry is free and you are bound to see either a new talent or possibly, as in my personal experience, a local character reading some of his ‘interesting’ poetry.

The Hobbit
The
Hobbit pub regularly has free live music events with some all-day festivals
in the summer. There is an enormous beer garden - great when all the doors
are open and you can listen to the bands while soaking up the sun - not
so great in the winter. A local hangout for students from the University,
it can get very busy though still keeps a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere.
Open til late and with Lord of the Rings themed cocktails to boot, The
Hobbit is a good venue for local rock, punk and metal bands.

The Brook
The
Brook, also in Portswood, is a 300 capacity venue with a mixture of quality
tribute bands, comedy nights and, every so often, a visit from a true
rock’n’roll legend. Many people travel for miles to see what
The Brook has to offer. Perhaps more of a venue for the older generation
this should not deter a younger crowd interested in a mixture of rock,
folk and country

The Bent Brief
This
pub is dedicated to the live music scene in Southampton. The music is
played on an informal stage to involve as many patrons as possible. Come
along any night to get involved with the live music. With more traditional
opening hours than many of Southampton's pubs, we offer the chance to enjoy
